Justin Raines 09 InterviewJustin Raines 09 Interview
Las Cruces composer Justin Raines has delighted audiences with his music for several years, both as a composition major at NMSU, and since he graduated. He has written music for a film directed by Mark Medoff, arranged the music for the musical ”We Are Enron,” and has heard his compositions performed in concert by the NMSU choirs, the NMSU Symphonic Winds, numerous local performers and chamber groups, and most recently, the Las Cruces Symphony. And now he’s off to Las Vegas, to pursue a graduate degree in composition. He came by the KRWG-FM studios to talk about some of his recent works, and the ”Starving Artist Benefit Concert” he has organized to help fund his move.

Hey, Mozart! New Mexico 09Hey, Mozart! New Mexico 09
A love of mysterious music, a haunted house, the sounds of a meadow, and a beloved ailing grandfather were the inspirations for four young Las Cruces composers to write music for New Mexico’s ”Hey Mozart!” Child Composing Project. They were the local winners in 2008, and they stopped by the KRWG-FM studios to talk about their pieces, how music is part of their lives, and their upcoming concert with the Las Cruces Symphony on May 10, 2009.

The Magic FluteThe Magic Flute
Magic takes on new meaning in the El Paso Opera’s production of ”The Magic Flute,” when Mozart’s fantasy world of sorcery is created entirely with swirling lights, lighting effects and digital images projected onto transparent screens. Emmy-award winning director David Grabarkewitz, who is director-in-residence at the New York City Opera, and production designer Barry Steele have collaborated for this unique show. General manager William Dickinson and cast member Thea Chip came to KRWG-FM studios to talk about the magic of the production and the magic of the opera.

 Alf Clausen Don Giovanni
A new recording of "Don Giovanni," released by conductor and music specialist, Rene Jacobs, returns to opera's roots by featuring an orchestra approximating the size and standards of Mozart's Day.
