Trittico
Love, infidelity, secrets, murder, heartbreak and even a comic satire on
family greed are all part of “Il Trittico,” the triptych of short operas
composed by Giacomo Puccini, and being staged by El Paso Opera on March
13 and 15. William Dickinson, the new general director of El Paso Opera,
came to Las Cruces to share his insights about this tour de force opera
evening with Intermezzo host, Leora Zeitlin. Along the way, they listen
to one aria from each of the three operas of Il Trittico:
1.) “T’ho colto!...”, the final scene from “Il Tabarro,” sung by Carlo Guelfi, Maria Guleghina, and Neil Shicoff with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Antonio Pappano (EMI #56587);
2.) “Il Principe Gualtiero…” from “Suor Angelica,” sung by Bernadette Manca Di Nissa and Crisitina GallardoDomas, from the same cd as above;
3.) “O Mio Babbino Caro,” from “Gianni Schicchi,” sung by Renee Fleming, with Sir Charles Mackerras conducting the London Philharmonic Orchestra (London cd #467049)
