Jerry Ann Alt & Margie Camp Interview

There's something about the sound of children's voices singing that can move even the most hardened heart. This year, middle school singers from Albuquerque, Gadsden and Las Cruces will be singing, along with the University singers, in two concerts featuring classical and popular favorites. Dr. Jerry Ann Alt, Director of Choral Activities at NMSU came by KRWG–FM with guest conductor Margie Camp, director of music education at Metropolitan College of Denver, and a veteran of 30 years of teaching middle school students in that city. They joined Intermezzo host Leora Zeitlin in a conversation about the sound of children's voices, the festival, and these tunes:

1.) “Hava Nagila,” arranged by Valerie Shields, sung by the Northwest Girlchoir, Rebecca J. Rottsolk conducting (Arsis cd#109):

2.) “Like a Mighty Stream,” by Moses Hogan and John Jacobson, sung by the Denver Middle School Honor Choir singing at the American Choral Directors Association meeting in Denver, July 2005;

3.) Thomas Morley, “Now is the Month of Maying,” sung by the Vesna Children’s Choir of Moscow, conducted by Alexander Ponomorev “Opus One cd #157”;

4.) “Oye,” by Jim Papoulis, sung on a sampler cd issued by Boosey & Hawkes;

5.) A few seconds of “A Festive Gloria,” by Linda Spevacek.
